An insight into the stance of Getafe star Mason Greenwood, when it comes to the ongoing investigation into an incident involving he and Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham, has come to the fore on Friday.
The respective names of Greenwood and Bellingham have of course dominated the media headlines in Spain over the last 24 hours.
This comes owing to an incident stemming from the La Liga clash between Getafe and Real Madrid on Thursday night.
The moment in question came upon Bellingham winning a challenge against Greenwood near the halfway line.
From here, TV cameras panned to the former, at which point it was noted that the Real standout appeared to direct an insult at his fellow countryman.
Though nothing has been forthcoming by way of confirmation, viewers of the fixture quickly pointed towards Bellingham as having made use of Greenwood’s past legal troubles to aim a dig at the on-loan Manchester United man.
Upon being made aware of the footage post-match, Getafe, as a result, made the decision to issue a complaint to La Liga.
An expert lip reader has in turn been hired, in an effort to come to a definitive conclusion on what exactly Bellingham said.
And yet, regardless of the outcome, neither Greenwood, nor Getafe, intend to take the matter any further.
That’s according to Guillermo Rai of The Athletic, who has this evening provided an update on the latest developments behind the scenes at the Estadio Coliseum:
‘Getafe sources, speaking on the condition of anonymity to protect relationship, insist Greenwood doesn’t want the matter to escalate.’
The Azulones brass share this viewpoint, amid the collective agreement that ‘what happens on the pitch stays on the pitch’.
It now remains to be seen, though, whether La Liga are of such an opinion, too.
