As revealed by The Athletic, Olympique de Marseille are considering a move for Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood (22), however, L’Équipe understands that any move for the English forward would be “very difficult”.
The Athletic reported that talks had even taken place between Manchester United and Marseille regarding a move for Greenwood, who was loaned out to La Liga side Getafe last season. That loan move came in the wake of Manchester United’s decision not to re-integrate the academy product after charges of attempted rape and assault against the forward were dropped. Greenwood denied all of the allegations against him.
His future is once again up in the air this summer with Manchester United looking to sell the player. However, a move to OM looks unlikely. Firstly, there is the financial element of the deal. Les Phocéens’ funds are limited this summer due to the ongoing TV rights uncertainty and also their failure to qualify for European football. Secondly, the prospective move has met opposition from fans, who are opposed to the idea of signing Greenwood, given the aforementioned dropped charges. L’Équipe therefore describes the potential deal as “very difficult”.
