Marseille reject Montpellier’s Bamo Meité approach

Contending with an injury crisis in defence, Montpellier HSC were looking to recruit in the January transfer window, however, according to L’Équipe, one of their major targets won’t be making a move to the Mosson.

Since the closure of the transfer window, and since the arrival of Jean-Louis Gasset as manager until the end of the season, Montpellier have brought in former Napoli centre-back Nikola Maksimovic on a free transfer. However, more bodies are still needed in this area of the pitch.

Bamo Meité (22) with whom Gasset worked at Olympique de Marseille last season, had been identified as a priority target. L’Équipe understands that La Paillade even submitted an offer for the Ivory Coast youth international. However, this loan approach has been knocked back by OM.

Meité has so far made just three brief substitute appearances for Marseille this season. However, with the defender contending with fitness issues, OM have backed the versatile defender to make a return to form, and given their difficulties at right-back, he is seen as a potential solution in this position.
