Olympique de Marseille’s owner Frank McCourt has announced via a group he created called Project Liberty that he is planning to put together a consortium of investors to buy the US operations of TikTok.
TikTok is set to be banned by the US government on the 19th of January after it deemed the media platform a risk to national security. The platform will not be allowed to be used across the country unless its Chinese parent company ByteDance sells the US operations.
TikTok and ByteDance have launched a last-minute appeal to the Supreme Court to have this decision overruled. And both companies have until now refused to accept selling their US operations.
Franck McCourt, Elon Musk, and Mr Beast
Bloomberg reported on Tuesday that the firm were looking at selling to X (formerly known as Twitter) owner Elon Musk, although TikTok referred to this story as “pure fiction.” While, the BBC have reported that the YouTuber Mr Beast holds an interest in buying the US operations.
