Fabrizio Romano has linked Olympique de Marseille with a surprise January loan move for Arsenal midfielder Fábio Vieira (23).
Vieira, who joined the Gunners in a €35m move from FC Porto back in the summer of 2022, has featured 14 times in all competitions, however, he has started just two Premier League games, the last coming in the North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur back in late September.
Romano, in his Caught Offside column, has said that Vieira’s Arsenal future is unclear heading into the January transfer window, however, he is attracting interest from Marseille. The Ligue 1 club could dip into the market for a midfielder in the new year after Valentin Rongier sustained a serious injury, which is set to sideline him for several months. It is thought that the Frenchman will be absent for at least three months after undergoing surgery on a knee injury a week ago.
Whilst there is uncertainty as to whether Vieira will move at all, there is also uncertainty at OM. The club currently do not have a sporting director following Javier Ribalta’s departure in October. Mehdi Benatia is expected to be named as Ribalta’s successor imminently, at which point, planning for the upcoming transfer window can begin.
