According to Fabrice Hawkins, Marquinhos (29) could be benched for PSG’s upcoming Champions League second-leg clash against Real Sociedad.
The PSG captain has been struggling with injury in recent weeks and has experienced some discomfort in training ahead of the match against the La Liga club. Marquinhos suffered a calf injury against Nantes in February and has since been nursed back to full fitness.
The Brazilian international was rested against Rennes and Monaco in a bid to allow the 29-year-old to return to full fitness ahead of this crucial match against Sociedad with quarter-final qualification on the line. However, following featuring in Les Parisiens training on Monday, the centre-back informed the PSG medical staff he did not feel ‘optimal’.
Danilo Pereira to start?
With Marquinhos not up to full fitness and potentially set to start on the bench, this could result in the returning Danilo Pereira (32) being entrusted with a starting berth. The Portugal international was absent for Paris against Monaco but has since returned to the squad ahead of the Sociedad match.
