Marcos Acuña to stay at Sevilla in January

Sevilla are set to keep Marcos Acuña beyond the January transfer window, report Marca.

The Argentine full-back fell out with Los Nervionenses’ board after choosing a conservative recovery treatment for an injury he picked up earlier in the year that meant he could not play for more than 45 minutes a game.

The club’s leadership accused Acuña of prioratising playing for Argentina at the World Cup over Sevilla, meaning they were keen to offload the 31-year-old in January.

However, Alex Telles’ recent injury means that the Brazilian will be sidelined until at least the middle of February, meaning Acuña will be the only natural left-back in the squad for the next couple of months.

Therefore the Argentina international will most likely stay at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán until at least the end of the season.

Marcos Acuña is having a great World Cup with his national team and his market value is expected to rise in the new year.
