Marco Rose’s job not in jeopardy despite RB Leipzig’s recent poor run of form

Speaking to kicker, RB Leipzig managing director Marcel Schäfer has confirmed that head coach Marco Rose’s job is not in trouble.

Leipzig have been winless in their last five games, look unlikely to progress in the Champions League, and have slipped down to third place in the Bundesliga. This has resulted in speculation surrounding head coach Rose, but Schäfer confirmed that the former Borussia Mönchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund head coach is not close to losing his job:

“I am convinced by the coaching team around Marco, and I am convinced by the squad. I have made that clear in recent weeks. But of course we also know that we urgently need a sense of success and that we have to achieve a turnaround. At RB, we subordinate everything to success.”

The vibe and situation surrounding Leipzig will drastically change in the new year when Jürgen Klopp begins his role as Global Head of Soccer at Red Bull. On what Klopp will bring to the table, Schäfer said:

“…He will support us, advise us, and we can only benefit from his knowledge. Oliver Mintzlaff has pulled off a great transfer. He has energy and fire in him, although I don’t yet know how he will live it out when he’s no longer on the sidelines.”

Why is the arrival of Klopp important?

Klopp is a proven winner, which is something greatly lacking at Leipzig and has resulted in them struggling to consistently fight at the top of the Bundesliga table. The knowledge and experience that Klopp brings will mean he can act as a mentor for head coach Rose, who was a player under Klopp at Mainz. This could slowly implement a culture shift at the club and allow Leipzig to finally achieve the aim that Red Bull set out when they first created the team.
