Thomas Müller discussed Marcel Sabitzer’s deadline day move from Bayern Munich to Manchester United on loan for the remainder of the season, without an option to buy.
“The team was surprised,” Müller told Kicker. “It happened very quickly. I’m happy for Sabi that he’s moving to Manchester United, getting a chance to play there. Manchester is a huge name.”
But, Müller adds: “He’ll be back in the summer. The chapter isn’t over yet.”
Sabitzer has featured in 15 of Bayern Munich’s 18 Bundesliga games this season, but managed just one minute in 2023 – Julian Nagelsmann instead opted to bring on Ryan Gravenberch instead of the Austrian against FC Köln, whilst in the absence of Leon Goretzka, Nagelsmann has opted for a midfield three of Joshua Kimmich, Jamal Musiala and Thomas Müller.
Sabitzer’s move to Manchester United doesn’t include an option to buy and even though a Bayern contract until 2025, his future remains uncertain. Sabitzer will collect minutes at Manchester United but when he returns in the summer, he’ll have to compete with Konrad Laimer, who is expected to complete a move to Bayern, whilst signing João Cancelo, who can also operate in midfield, is also a possibility for Bayern.
