kicker reports that the current trend for long-time Germany number one Manuel Neuer is that he will continue on as Germany’s goalkeeper.
After Germany’s loss to Spain in the EURO 2024 quarter-finals the future of Neuer was up in the air as at times during the tournament he has not been at his best, and it would have made sense for Marc-Andre ter Stegen to be given his chance as number one.
However, the 38-year-old is still in the consideration phase of his decision but the current trend indicates that he will want to play in the World Cup in 2026 when he is 40.
When it comes to his club career, it is also suggested that he will stay on at Bayern for another season, with his current contract expiring in 2025. This will have a knock on effect on the future of Alexander Nubel who signed a contract extension earlier this year before extending his loan at VfB Stuttgart.
Unlike Neuer, long-time club and international teammate Thomas Müller is to retire from international football after Germany’s elimination.
