With Germany starting their World Cup campaign, Manuel Neuer was set to wear a ‘One Love’ armband however it now looks like this could be in jeopardy with the goalkeeper potentially facing fines or a suspension, according to Bild.
Germany is one of six other nations wearing the ‘One Love’ armband which is used against homophobia, racism, human rights, and women’s rights. FIFA dislikes this idea and has launched its own similar campaign while also trying to ban the ‘One Love’ armband.
When it comes to punishment, DFB President Bernd Neuendorf said: “I am quite willing to accept a fine.” However, it could also mean Neuer is given a yellow card which will continue to accumulate and could result in him missing a game for Germany.
The first nation to play with the ‘One Love’ armband is England on Monday against Iran. What happens to England captain Harry Kane will foreshadow what will likely happen to Neuer.
Germany kicks off their World Cup against Japan on Wednesday.
