Kobbie Mainoo has withdrawn his request to leave Manchester United in the winter transfer window.
The 20-year-old was pushing for a loan exit because of limited opportunities this season. He has now changed his mind about his future at Old Trafford.
Mainoo has made 11 Premier League appearances, with all of them coming off the bench.
However, his fortunes will likely improve now that Ruben Amorim is no longer in charge.
United announced Amorim’s departure on Monday after he aimed pointed comments at the club’s hierarchy following Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Leeds United.
Darren Fletcher has been appointed interim coach, and Mainoo could be handed more game time.
He has missed United’s previous four games due to a calf issue, but he is reportedly closing in on a return.
The young midfielder has been doing individual training for a week now. The club are determined not to rush him back and risk aggravating the injury.
United have been without several key players due to injuries and international call-ups.
Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui are playing at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), while Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount are sidelined with fitness issues.
