Manchester United want to sign Atlético Madrid forward João Félix in the January transfer window. According to Relevo, the Premier League club are willing to offer €4m plus the full salary for the loan of the Portuguese forward until June.
It would be a simple loan, without an option to buy. Atlético are aware of the interest through the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes. Atlético consider the offer to be very far from what they want, as they are looking for an amount closer to €12m or €13m, three times what United would offer.
The situation threatens to become increasingly tense, because the player is determined to leave in this window. He didn’t return to training after the match against Elche, citing muscular discomfort. His intention is not to force a move away and not to risk an injury that could jeopardise any transfer.
Although the talented forward was a starter against Elche in the first post-World Cup match, the relationship with head coach Diego Simeone is far from good. When asked about resolving the issue on Tuesday, the Argentinian coach said: “For the players, the representatives, who are very important in this, and the coaches, it’s important to have the peace of mind of knowing where you’re going to stand”.
