Manchester United have surprise former Premier League star on their transfer radar

Manchester United are reportedly eyeing up former Arsenal and Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud amid their search for new attacking players.

The veteran France international has been a key player for current club AC Milan, and it may be tricky for Man Utd to bring him back to the Premier League as it’s suggested he’s likely to agree a new contract at the San Siro, according to the Times.

Still, it’s easy to see why the Red Devils might be tempted by Giroud as a short-term option to solve their issues up front, with Erik ten Hag short of quality at the moment following Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit, and a lack of consistency from the likes of Anthony Martial, Jadon Sancho and Antony.

Giroud may be 36 years of age, but continues to shine at the highest level, helping France reach the World Cup final in Qatar last month.

Olivier Giroud in action for AC Milan

Having scored 144 goals in spells with both Arsenal and Chelsea, it’s clear Giroud can cut it in the Premier League, so could be a low-cost option for United to consider if they cannot secure deals for any bigger signings this January.

Milan will no doubt want to keep Giroud, however, and the Times’ report suggests he’s also prepared to accept their proposal to stay at the club.
