Manchester United have reservations about signing Matthijs de Ligt

Manchester United’s interest in Matthijs de Ligt (24) is well documented, but the Premier League club have some reservations about signing the Bayern Munich central-defender.

According to Christopher Michel of fussball.news, Manchester United have doubts over De Ligt’s fitness. The Dutchman has already missed 11 games across all competitions for Bayern Munich this season and according to Transfermarket, since August 2020, De Ligt has missed 46 games for the Netherlands, Juventus and Bayern Munich.

In addition to De Ligt’s injury proneness, Manchester United also have reservations about the player’s lack of pace and also the figure that Bayern Munich would command for the defender. De Ligt is contracted to Bayern Munich until 2027 and after signing the defender for just shy of €70m, the Rekordmeister would expect to receive a high percentage of the fee paid in July 2022.

Is Matthijs de Ligt unhappy at Bayern Munich?

As reported last week, De Ligt isn’t 100% satisfied with his situation at the Rekordmeister after falling behind to Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano. As Manchester United continue to monitor the player’s situation, De Ligt doesn’t want to leave Bayern Munich in the winter transfer window but if his situation doesn’t improve, a summer departure may be conceivable, more so if a new defender arrives at the Allianz Arena, with Bayern actively showing an interest in Barcelona’s Ronald Araújo and PSG’s Nordi Mukiele.
