Manchester United have completed the signing of Jack Butland from Crystal Palace, according to Fabrizio Romano.
It is said that the 29-year-old has completed his medical and will now move to Old Trafford on a loan deal which doesn’t have a buy option.
The Red Devils were in the market for a new goalkeeper after Martin Dubravka’s loan spell was cut short by Newcastle United.
Dubravka only managed to make two appearances across all competitions in Manchester before rejoining his parent club.
Now Butland will serve as the deputy to David de Gea at United.
The England international’s contract at Selhurst Park is set to expire in the summer but the Eagles have the option to extend it by another year.
Now Man Utd need to sign a striker
David de Gea is the number one goalkeeper at Manchester United. He has been brilliant between the sticks this season and is unlikely to give many opportunities to Butland.
De Gea also wasn’t involved at the 2022 World Cup, so he has received sufficient rest.
Butland’s involvement is likely to be limited to a few appearances in the EFL Cup or FA Cup.
However, United have made the right decision by signing another goalkeeper as the worst case scenario of an injury to their main man is also a possibility.
But now they are close to announcing their first signing in January, Erik ten Hag’s side must also step up efforts to bring in a new striker.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure has left the Red Devils with only a single recognised senior centre-forward in the form of Anthony Martial.
And though Martial has been excellent with his performances, the problem is the Frenchman is rarely available due to injuries.
