Manchester City agree €65m fee to sign Rennes winger Jeremy Doku

Manchester City have won the race to sign Stade Rennais’ highly-rated youngster Jeremy Doku, with the treble winners announcing his arrival on their official website.

The 21-year-old has signed a five-year deal with the Premier League title holders that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2028.

Man City are believed to have parted ways with around €60 million (£51m) to acquire Doku’s services, and his departure from Roazhon Park constitutes a club record sale for the French club.

The Cityzens have been looking to replace Riyad Mahrez on the right flank, and Doku is an acquisition that will undoubtedly get the supporters off their seats with his dazzling skills and dribbling ability.

“This is a great day for me, both personally and professionally,” Doku said.

“Manchester City are the best team in world football, so to be joining them is something very special for me and my family.

“I am a young player with so much learning and improving to do. Working with Pep [Guardiola] and his staff and playing alongside these work-class players will make me a much better player. I feel sure of that.

“I cannot wait to get started. Hopefully, I can make the fans happy.”

Doku becomes Guardiola’s third signing of the summer transfer window, following in the footsteps of Croatian duo Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol.

But Man City could make at least one more addition to their squad before the market closes.

The European champions are still looking to sign a midfielder, with Belgian playmaker Kevin De Bruyne expected to spend the rest of the year treating and recovering from a hamstring problem.

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Matheus Nunes and Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze are at the top of Man City’s wishlist, but a deal for either player will likely take their summer spending spree more than £200m.

Meanwhile, Doku’s arrival could open the door for Cole Palmer to leave the club this summer, with the England under-21 international keen for more playing time.

The youngster has produced some eye-catching performances for the Cityzens but could struggle to establish himself in Guardiola’s plans for the rest of the campaign.
