As reported by AS, Manchester City are interested in signing Anderlecht’s Sergio Gómez if they fail to come to an agreement over the transfer of Marc Cucurella with Brighton.
As it was communicated earlier today, the Sky Blues are set to lose out on Cucurella as they are not keen on increasing their £40 million bid and Chelsea are willing to pay the Seagulls their £50 million asking price.
Manchester City have shifted their attention to Sergio Gómez instead, who spent the past season playing for Anderlecht in the Belgian Pro League.
According to the Belgian newspaper Nieuwsblad, the Premier League side are already negotiating a deal for the Anderlecht left-back in case their Cucurella bid falls through.
Gómez came through the Barcelona youth system. Despite not playing for the Blaugrana senior side, he is still considered as one of the best Spanish full-backs around and is a regular in the U21 national team.
It is believed that the 21-year-old would fill the void left by Oleksandr Zinchenko, who left Manchester City to join Arsenal this summer.
