Man Utd ‘would be prepared to meet’ asking price for £80m star at Old Trafford

Manchester United would probably be prepared to spend £80m on Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor has told GiveMeSport.

The England international has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, and Taylor can envision the Red Devils making a move for him in the summer.

Man United transfer news – Harry Kane

According to the Daily Mail, United are interested in signing Kane, who could cost around £85m in the next transfer window.

The outlet claims that manager Erik ten Hag wants to bring in a new No.9 and the 29-year-old is one of the club’s preferred options.

United, of course, lost Cristiano Ronaldo towards the end of 2022 and have not replaced him with another elite forward.

Wout Weghorst has since arrived at Old Trafford, but the Dutchman has only joined the Red Devils on loan, coming in as a short-term fix.

What has Ryan Taylor said about Harry Kane and Man United?

If Kane is going to cost around £80m this summer, Taylor reckons United will try and get something done.

Speaking to GMS, the Daily Express journalist said: “They [Tottenham] cannot afford to lose a player of his quality on a free transfer – no way at all – and I think a fee of about £80m is one that I think if United get top four, they’d probably be prepared to meet.”

Will Tottenham sell Harry Kane this summer?

A lot will depend on what happens with his contract. As things stand, the England captain, who has been described as “majestic” by The Athletic’s Adam Crafton, will be a free agent in 2024.

If he does not put pen to paper on a new deal by the end of the season, then Spurs will surely have to consider selling him in the next transfer window or risk losing their talisman for nothing.

Wayne Rooney - Manchester United

Which year did Wayne Rooney leave Manchester United?

There is a strong possibility that Kane does end up signing fresh terms at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with The Athletic revealing that the player actually is open to doing just that.

Should nothing materialise, though, then the north London club will obviously have a big decision to make in the summer.

If United can land Kane, it would, of course, be an incredible signing. The Three Lions star has been a consistent goalscorer for years now, finding the back of the net on more than 260 occasions for Tottenham, as per Transfermarkt. It is a big if, however, as Spurs will do everything they can to keep hold of him.
