Manchester United will be in the ‘race’ for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham when he becomes available, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.
The 19-year-old has been linked with several top clubs from across the continent and could depart the Signal Iduna Park next summer as he looks to take the next step in his promising career.
What is the latest news involving Bellingham?
A recent report from The Athletic has stated that United’s fierce rivals Liverpool are ‘very interested’ in snapping Bellingham up in 12 months’ time, although they are far from his only potential suitors.
It’s claimed that Real Madrid, Chelsea and the Red Devils are also closely monitoring the England international’s situation, and Dortmund will surely be hoping a bidding war ensues between them.
A fee of £103 million is believed to be what the Bundesliga outfit are set to demand for Bellingham’s services, who has three years remaining on his current contract.
And after United spent all of the previous window trying and failing to prise Frenkie de Jong away from Barcelona, they could decide to turn their attention and resources to Bellingham instead next summer.
Like most superstars who ply their trade at Dortmund, the engine room operator’s exit seems inevitable, and Erik ten Hag is likely to be hoping his next destination is Old Trafford.
What has O’Rourke said about Bellingham?
United are beginning a new era under the tutelage of Ten Hag and have already brought in several fresh faces during his first transfer window at the helm.
And O’Rourke has told GiveMeSport that he believes the 20-time English champions will be in the running for Bellingham.
He said: “I think if Jude Bellingham does become available in the next transfer window, whether it’s next summer or January, I’m sure Manchester United, like all top European clubs, will be in that race for Bellingham.”
Would Bellingham be a good signing?
ESPN editor David Cartlidge previously described Bellingham as a “machine”, and it’s hard to argue with that assessment when looking at his statistics.
The 6 foot 1 ace has registered 12 goals and 19 assists in 97 appearances across all competitions for Dortmund, claiming one DFB-Pokal along the way.
As per FBref, Bellingham has also ranked in the 97th percentile for completed dribbles, 96th for touches in the attacking penalty area, 95th for progressive passes received, 92nd for shot-creating actions, 90th for total shots, and 84th for progressive carries amongst his positional peers over the last year.
It’s evident that Bellingham could be an exciting addition for United if they can fend off the extensive competition for his signature.
