Man Utd transfer plans for January now revealed at Old Trafford – GiveMeSport

Manchester United are unlikely to splash the cash and welcome a host of recruits to Old Trafford when the transfer window reopens in January, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

Erik ten Hag was appointed as the Red Devils’ boss following the conclusion of last season, but it seems he will not be given plenty of money to play with at the turn of the year.

What’s the latest news on Manchester United’s plans?

Speaking at a fans’ forum, via The Athletic, Manchester United football director John Murtough has warned that the same level of spending as in recent transfer windows should not be expected in January.

Murtough, who moved into his behind the scenes role in March 2021, has suggested that the Red Devils secured more reinforcements than expected ahead of the September 1 deadline and will only strengthen where needed.

Manchester United brought in six fresh faces during the summer, spending close to £220million in the process.

Among the acquisitions was Antony, who became the second most expensive signing in the club’s entire history.

Despite Murtough’s claims, it is understood that Manchester United are weighing up a mid-season move for Norwich City star Max Aarons and fellow right-back Jeremie Frimpong, of Bayer Leverkusen.

What has Dharmesh Sheth said about the situation?

Sheth believes Manchester United are focused on identifying potential fresh faces ahead of next summer’s transfer window instead of January.

The Sky Sports reporter feels the Red Devils will not be heavily involved in negotiations during the early stages of 2023.

Sheth told GIVEMESPORT: “What I would say is that clubs like Manchester United and a lot of other clubs’ focus is usually on a summer transfer window.

“January is sometimes seen as a panic month, but the information that I’ve been given is that United aren’t likely to be that busy during this transfer window.”

Could Manchester United look to tie players down to new contracts?

Rather than looking for reinforcements, ten Hag could focus on offering new contracts to his current stars as 10 players’ deals are due to expire next summer, although a number of those include an option to extend the agreement by 12 months.

Among those names is David De Gea, who is understood to be willing to pen fresh terms on a reduced wage.

Manchester United are reportedly looking to tie Marcus Rashford down to a new long-term contract ahead of the new year after gaining interest from the likes of Paris Saint-Germain.
