Manchester United are ‘seriously considering’ making a move for Ajax winger Antony this summer, according to journalist Dean Jones.
The Red Devils are believed to be in the market for attacking reinforcements after missing out on the signature of Darwin Nunez to bitter rivals Liverpool.
What is the latest news involving Antony?
According to GOAL, United are ‘making progress’ in their bid to prise Antony away from the Johan Cruijff ArenA, and he could become the first signing under new manager Erik ten Hag.
It’s claimed that the Brazil international’s representatives are already in Europe to ‘accelerate and possibly conclude’ talks.
A fee of €60 million (£51m) is believed to be enough to secure the services of Antony, who would be reunited with his former boss Ten Hag should he make the switch to Old Trafford.
And transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the South American sensation’s situation, stating that United have a ‘genuine interest’ in him.
Romano goes on to claim that no formal offer has arrived at Ajax from the 20-time English champions, although internal discussions have taken place within the club.
What has Jones said about Antony?
Jones believes that Antony would add a ‘new dimension’ to United’s attacking threat and that he could help ease their issues on the right-wing.

He told GiveMeSport: “Antony is worth bringing in if they can because he does help that right-sided situation, which is a problem as we look at it right now.
“He (Ten Hag) could play Elanga, he could play Rashford, but having someone like Antony adds a new dimension to their threat. So, I think it’s something they’re seriously considering.”
How good is Antony?
Antony has established himself as one of the most promising and exciting young forward players in world football since arriving at Ajax from boyhood club Sao Paulo back in July 2020.
Since then, the 22-year-old has registered 22 goals and 20 assists in 79 appearances for the Amsterdam giants, claiming two Eredivisie titles and one Dutch Cup. And his underlying numbers are equally as eye-catching.
As per FBref, Antony has ranked in the 99th percentile for total shots and progressive passes received, the 98th for progressive carries and interceptions, and the 96th for expected assists amongst his positional peers over the last year.
It’s evident that a reunion between Antony and Ten Hag could prove to be extremely beneficial for United, and his arrival in the red half of Manchester could finally end their long-standing issues down the right-hand side.
