Man Utd Prioritising New Midfielder Over Antoine Semenyo

Manchester United are ‘focused’ on strengthening their midfield following links with Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo, according to GIVEMESPORT senior reporter Fabrizio Romano.

The Red Devils have been credited with an interest in the Ghana international in recent days and weeks, following the news that he will have a £65m release clause for part of the January transfer window.

Manchester United look set for a busy 2026 in the transfer market, with midfield a particular focus for Ruben Amorim and INEOS.

According to GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Ben Jacobs, United could look to bring in two central midfielders next year, with the likes of Elliot Anderson, Conor Gallagher, Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton and Angelo Stiller among the confirmed targets.

The Red Devils are being linked with more attacking players too though, including Semenyo.

The 25-year-old has been in sensational form for the Cherries this term after signing a new deal in July – including the release clause – with six goals and three assists in 11 Premier League appearances this season.

While English top flight interest in Semenyo is growing ahead of January, nothing is close yet and Romano says United have other transfer priorities.

Writing in his latest GIVEMESPORT newsletter on Wednesday after being asked if United’s interest in Semenyo is genuine, the Italian journalist said:

There are at least 3/4 clubs interested, but nothing is close or even advanced now. It’s too early to say, and also I’m told United’s main focus remains on midfielders.

United Midfield Issue Far More Pressing

Kobbie Mainoo

United’s XI under Amorim is slowly coming together as the players look far more suited to his 3-4-3 system than they did last season.

The Red Devils’ attack looks good on paper with the likes of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko – when he returns from injury – but there are still doubts over that central midfield area.

Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes are coming towards the twilight of their careers, with Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte clearly not providing the competition the Portuguese manager wants in that position.

The likes of Anderson and Wharton would bring some much-needed youth and quality for Amorim, and it seems INEOS are ready to pounce to continue their big United squad rebuild.
