Man Utd plotting summer swoop for Brighton gem Evan Ferguson

Manchester United are already mapping their summer transfer plans and have an eye on Brighton & Hove Albion jewel Evan Ferguson, according to Manchester Evening News.

Fresh from a successful 2023 summer transfer window, United are already plotting to make moves next year, with holes in the squad left to be addressed.

United shelled €75 million to sign Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta this summer but have their eye on Ferguson, who has had an impressive start to his senior career.

Last season, Ferguson bagged ten goals in 25 senior appearances for the Seagulls in a memorable debut campaign. He looks set to follow it up with another remarkable season.

The young Irishman has already notched four goals in four Premier League appearances this season, including an unforgettable hat-trick against Newcastle United.

The goals showed a complete range of skills for a centre-forward. Ferguson was on hand to sweep in a spilt shot for the first, showing good positioning, reaction, and awareness.

For the second, he came deep to collect the ball and turned into excellent range before curling his shot in from a distance.

The third took a massive deflection to beat Nick Pope, but it showed his willingness to shoot with his weaker foot.

Ferguson has since accepted a call-up to play for Ireland amid a push from England and has bagged twice in six appearances.

United already registered interest in his services this summer and plan to push for his signature in 2024.

However, their interest will be met with a stern Tony Bloom on the other end. The British businessman and Brighton chairman will want massive compensation for the young striker, who recently signed a new contract with Brighton to stay until 2028.

Bloom may be open to letting Ferguson leave this summer, but he will likely demand more than the £115 million Chelsea paid for Moises Caicedo around a month ago.

Apart from the talented centre-forward, United have eyes on Bundesliga pair Jeremie Frimpong and Edmond Tapsoba.

They will also be after a right-sided attacker, with uncertainty looming over the future of Jadon Sancho and Antony.
