While United may move for a new midfielder in the summer, their priority now seems to be bringing in a striker.

“We are looking for offensive players,” Erik ten Hag recently told the Red Devils’ official club website. “We are looking for a striker.

“It would be good because, with the games coming, there are so many, every third day, and we want to play in all the competitions that we are now in, and stay in those competitions, and hopefully keep going until the end of the season.”

United’s need for a new forward comes following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure last month.

What has Jacque Talbot said about Man United’s transfer plans for the summer?

Talbot has told GMS that United’s focus will shift towards midfield in the second window of 2023.

Discussing what business the Manchester club could do then, the journalist said: “Man United have got a plan of selling a few players off in the summer and then recouping that money and putting in a bid for a world-class midfielder, possibly two is what I was told. At one point, even Bruno Guimaraes was on that list.”

Who could Man United sign?

Other than Guimaraes, who cost Newcastle £40m when he joined from Lyon in January, as reported by Sky Sports, the likes of Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice are other names that have been mentioned.

There is a belief in the game that United could make an aggressive push for the former at the end of the season. As for his England team-mate, a bid for him cannot be ruled out either.

According to The Athletic, the Red Devils have registered an interest in the West Ham captain.

The same outlet states that Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester City have also done the same, so getting him will not be easy.

With the top teams all going after the same players, you can certainly expect a couple of bidding wars heading into the 2023/24 campaign. However, the prospect of such may not deter United, who have already shown that they are not scared to spend big on a midfielder.

They, of course, recently bought Casemiro from Real Madrid for £70m, so money does not look to be a problem for them.
