Manchester United are offering a ‘fatter salary’ to Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha than Premier League rivals Newcastle, MailOnline journalist Craig Hope has revealed.
The Red Devils are advancing in their bid to make the 25-year-old attacker Ruben Amorim’s first summer signing at Old Trafford and are believed to be ahead of Newcastle in the race.
While Eddie Howe’s side have identified Cunha as a potential winger option in the market, alongside Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, the Magpies now seem unlikely to land the Brazilian after his impressive season under Vitor Pereira at Wolves.
Cunha has scored 15 goals and provided six assists in 30 league appearances this term and is Wolves’ top scorer in the competition with three games remaining.

Man United are expected to complete the deal for Cunha in the coming weeks and pay his £62.5m release clause in instalments.
According to Fabrizio Romano, talks between the two parties are now ‘very advanced’ and Cunha’s arrival at Old Trafford could happen as early as next month.
The Brazilian forward, praised as ‘world-class’, was linked with a Molineux exit in January but signed a new four-year deal with the club and ended speculation at the time.
Cunha has been particularly impressive since renewing his contract, scoring five goals and providing two assists in his last eight Premier League appearances.
Man United are planning to bring in at least two new forwards this summer, with a new number nine also high on Amorim’s agenda.
The Red Devils have identified both Ipswich Town ace Liam Delap and Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen as options, while a move for Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres remains complicated.
