Man Utd now ‘encouraged’ over move for £57m winger at Old Trafford

Manchester United will continue to pursue Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic after receiving encouraging signs from the player’s camp, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Erik ten Hag has overseen a shocking start to the Premier League season, losing to Brighton and Brentford in their opening two matches, but can still strengthen ahead of the September 1 deadline.

What is the latest news on Pulisic?

The Athletic reported earlier this week that United were considering a loan move for Pulisic ahead of the transfer window slamming shut.

Pulisic, who cost Chelsea £57 million back in 2019, has also had interest from Newcastle United, Juventus and Atletico Madrid this summer, according to the outlet, but the player prefers a switch to Old Trafford.

They say the American has grown frustrated with his lack of game time under Thomas Tuchel and the club are now willing to listen to offers.

Meanwhile, The Telegraph report that United have turned their attention to PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo with a move for Ajax ace Antony an increasing long shot.

What has Jones said on the Pulisic chase?

Jones understands that Chelsea could be open to losing the 23-year-old to their ‘big-six’ rivals.

The transfer insider adds that it is a deal United are likely to continue pursuing after being given some positive signs from Pulisic’s representatives.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “I think Chelsea can become open to this. They’ve obviously got to get their heads around what their own attack ends up looking like, because there are other players that they wanted to get out the door ahead of Pulisic and then you’ve got the dilemma over whether it’s a loan or a permanent transfer to deal with. But I think this is one United will continue to go for because there’s been some encouragement from the player’s camp.”

Would Pulisic be a good signing for United?

Pulisic is certainly a player who has the ability to change a game in the final third, having scored 44 goals and provided 45 assists across his professional club career.

The £150,000 per-week star has plenty of leadership potential having worn the armband for the United States Men’s National Team. His goal record for his country is also impressive, bagging 21 times in 50 games.

Unlike United, Pulisic has claimed plenty of silverware in recent years too, winning the Champions League, German Cup and FIFA Club World Cup across his career.
