Man Utd Must Make Move for Ipswich Manager Kieran McKenna

Manchester United must make Kieran McKenna their next permanent head coach if they’re looking for someone who ticks all of the boxes.

The Red Devils are looking for a new boss following the decision to sack Ruben Amorim on Monday following a tumultuous 14-month stay at Old Trafford.

The present focus is on finding an immediate replacement with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick being eyed as potential interim head coaches that could take charge until the end of the season.

With a longer-term view in mind, McKenna could be the perfect man to lead the Red Devils into the next few years.

Kieran McKenna A Manchester United Target

Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna is a target for the Red Devils, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic. Joining Man United in 2016, the Northern Irish boss started as under-18s manager before becoming a first team coach working under Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick before taking the Ipswich job in December 2021.

Discussing McKenna, Ornstein told The Athletic Podcast: “I’m intrigued by the Kieran McKenna bracket of coaches. Ipswich fans won’t like this and I’m not saying he’s even in the frame or get it. But it’s that breed who’s got United DNA and real coaching pedigree.

He added: “Someone like McKenna, I think United saw a lot of attraction in him, his coaching, which was influential at United when he was there previously for much bigger names like Mourinho, his association to Manchester United, which I think we’re now starting to see. It’s a unique job and place and environment in which to work — just because you’re a great coach or a great name, there are more qualities that are needed.”

McKenna Is Ready For Man United Job

While lots of names have been bandied around regarding the Man United gig, Kieran McKenna surely fits the bill as the ideal candidate for the job.

Someone who understands the demands of the club, the 39-year-old has a big competitive advantage over some of the names mentioned as permanent options. McKenna has also showed his quality with Ipswich, winning back-to-back promotions, battling against the odds in the Premier League and currently firmly on track to take the Tractor Boys back to the top flight this time around.

Described as ‘world class’, McKenna is young, tactically astute and crucially, still improving. He is more than ready for Man United and could be a brilliant all-round option for the job.
