Manchester United fans have delivered a verdict on Carlos Baleba after he made his first appearance since joining from Brighton and Hove Albion.
During the summer transfer window, United spent big as they revamped their midfield by bringing in the likes of Baleba, Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos.
Despite another big-money transfer window, the Red Devils have been way below par, collecting just six points from their opening six matches.
Against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening, United led through Bryan Mbeumo but were denied by a late Dominic Solanke equaliser, meaning the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
Manchester United Fans Reach Verdict After Carlos Baleba’s Old Trafford Debut
Although it was another poor result, United fans reacted positively to Baleba’s debut, after he was brought on in the 59th minute to replace the disappointing Tielemans.
During his 31-minute cameo, Baleba racked up a pass success rate of 88.9%, completing 16 out of 18 attempted passes. He also had two shots but lost possession three times.
Reacting on social media, United fans were extremely happy with what they saw. One fan said:
“Baleba, I’m watching you with the biggest smile on my face. This is the kind of midfielder I’ve been praying for. YOU HAVE CHANGED MY LIFE.”
Another tweeted: “Who else is watching my boy Baleba? He’s an absolute joy to watch! What a baller!”
A third fan added: “Baleba comes on the pitch and we’re instantly better within 60 seconds LOOOL.”
Someone else wrote: “This Carlos Baleba cameo is top drawer. Want him to do well there, and he is so far.”
A fifth commented: “Took about 20 minutes for Baleba to earn that Rolls Royce tag.”
Another fan said:
“Baleba, you’re the only reason I’ve smiled today.”
One final United supporter added: “SEND BRIGHTON ANOTHER 70M FOR BALEBA WE ROBBED THEM.”
Jamie Redknapp Says Tottenham Hotspur ‘Outclassed’ Manchester United
Speaking on Sky Sports following the final whistle, Jamie Redknapp believes that Spurs ‘outclassed’ United in many areas during the match.
He praised Spurs’ ability to show character and score the equaliser, especially after Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off for a headbutt.
Redknapp said: “If they had lost 1-0 and you’d asked how they played, I would have said excellent. They were really good in every department and outclassed Man Utd in so many areas.
“Maddison came on and made a big difference as Spurs gained a foothold in the game, but they were much better than United today and deserved that point.
“They showed the character to get back in the game and this is the sort of performance that can really start to change their whole season, as there were a lot of good things in that performance today.”
Despite the late show, Spurs are still in the bottom three of the Premier League standings with just three points to their name.
