Manchester United are interested in signing Borussia Dortmund left-back Julian Ryerson this summer, according to reports.
The Old Trafford side are reportedly planning a comprehensive defensive overhaul after the season and view the Norway international as the ‘perfect’ addition to their squad.
United are looking to solve their long-standing rotation issues at full-back, given their current options are Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui and Tyrell Malacia, whose contract expires this summer.
While Patrick Dorgu is also able to provide cover at left-back, the Denmark international has been utilised on the left wing in recent games and is currently out with an injury.
Man Utd Keen on Julian Ryerson
According to SportsBoom, Manchester United could face competition from Newcastle for Ryerson’s signature this summer, with St James’ Park chiefs viewing the 28-year-old as a direct replacement for Kieran Trippier.
A versatile full-back, Ryerson is able to play on either side and is rated by United for his contributions going forward and defensive discipline.
The ‘flawless’ Norway international has been in exceptional form this season, registering 11 assists in 20 Bundesliga games for Dortmund. Only Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise (16) has provided more among all players in Germany’s top flight in 2025/26.
United registered no major transfer activity during the January transfer window, with all their focus shifted onto the summer, when they are expected to appoint a permanent manager.
The Red Devils are unbeaten in five games under interim head coach Michael Carrick and next take on Everton away in the Premier League on February 23.
Dimarco Another Name on the Shortlist
While a new midfielder looks set to top the summer agenda, with Casemiro leaving at the end of his contract in June, United also appear well-placed to bring in a new wide defender.
According to reports, the Old Trafford side are also admirers of Inter Milan star Federico Dimarco, who will have only 12 months left on his contract this summer.
The 28-year-old has been in exceptional form for Inter this season, registering five goals and 13 assists in 22 Serie A appearances.
Inter are reportedly looking to extend Dimarco’s contract amid interest from Premier League clubs, with the Italian potentially offered fresh terms until 2029 or 2030.
