Man United have no plans to make emergency January signing

Manchester United are preparing for a challenging period this winter as the African Cup of Nations threatens to strip Ruben Amorim’s squad of several key first-team players.

According to The Sun, the club is planning to lean heavily on its academy talent throughout December and January, rather than dipping into the transfer market for short-term fixes.

United will lose Bryan Mbeumo, currently their top scorer, along with Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui, all of whom are set to represent their national teams at AFCON.

The tournament begins in mid-December, with the final scheduled for January 18, meaning the trio could be absent for up to six weeks depending on how far their countries progress.

But despite these departures, Man United have reportedly decided against rushing into any emergency January signings, especially in the forward areas.

Instead, Amorim is said to be prioritising the club’s long-term plan of strengthening the midfield in the summer, where United expect to make at least one marquee addition.

This approach means space will open up for several promising youngsters. Academy forwards and attacking midfielders are expected to be fast-tracked into first-team matchday squads, giving them a valuable opportunity to impress at senior level.

United’s academy has produced a long list of elite talent over the years, from Marcus Rashford to Kobbie Mainoo, and Amorim is known for trusting young players, having done so consistently at Sporting CP before taking charge at Old Trafford.

Another factor influencing United’s cautious approach in the market is the status of Benjamin Sesko. Although the Slovenia international is the club’s primary No. 9, he has already experienced some injury setbacks this season.

The report claims that while United have no intention of signing a striker in January, part of the academy plan is to ensure suitable cover is available if Sesko’s injury proves to be serious.

Instead of temporary solutions, the focus is on giving young players a platform, managing the squad intelligently, and ensuring future transfer windows are used strategically.

With AFCON looming and a tricky festive fixture schedule ahead, Man United youngsters will get a chance to prove themselves in the near future.
