Manchester United could see their move for Elliot Anderson hijacked by fierce rivals Manchester City.
Anderson has emerged as one of English football’s most in-demand stars after an incredible 12 months or so in which he’s emerged as a genuine top-level talent.
Described as ‘elite’, the midfielder has enjoyed quite a rise since swapping Newcastle United for Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2024 for a fee worth £35million.
As well as being a shining star at the City Ground, the 23-year-old has become a senior England international with six caps to his name and a spot in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad all-but confirmed for next summer.
But as well as taking on the world with the Three Lions, Anderson could be set for a lucrative move.
Elliott Anderson Set For Manchester Tug-Of-War
Anderson is set to be a major talking point in next summer’s transfer gossip pages.
According to Craig Hope at the Daily Mail, Pep Guardiola’s side will prioritise a deal to sign the Nottingham Forest star in 2026 as they look to bolster their midfield options.
It’s understood that Forest will command a fee in the region of £80-£100million, meaning that the England international will be a significant outlay.
While Sean Dyche’s side are reluctant to lose the player in January, a deal could be struck before the Three Lions embark on their 2026 World Cup adventure next summer.
It is a huge blow to the Red Devils who had listed Anderson as their number one transfer target for next year.
Man United Will Be Gutted By Anderson Update
The latest news on Man City’s interest in Anderson is a major blow for Manchester United. It was claimed that the Red Devils were looking for two blockbuster midfield signings at the end of the season, with the Nottingham Forest star and Brighton’s Carlos Baleba being eyed.
Unfortunately, it seems like Pep Guardiola’s side are now in the ascendancy.
Ruben Amorim will be hoping to guide his side back into European competition next term. However, the opportunity for Anderson to challenge regularly for the Premier League title and play season in, season out in the Champions League would be too good to turn down.
His stock is also rising on the international stage and if he continues to impress at next year’s World Cup it will be no surprise to see him turning out for one of world football’s top sides.
Whether Man United can pip City to the signing remains to be seen, but this update would suggest that they may need to look elsewhere if they’re going to bring in two elite-level central midfielders at the end of the season.
