Newcastle United produced an excellent display at St James’ Park on Wednesday as they forced Liverpool to share the spoils in the Premier League.
The Magpies were on the brink of defeat after Mohamed Salah’s double put the visitors 3-2 ahead, but Fabian Schar rescued a point by scoring a late equaliser.
Newcastle had many encouraging performances, especially Bruno Guimaraes in midfield.
His influence stretched to both ends of the pitch, as he contributed in defence as well as attack.
Guimaraes is a huge asset for Eddie Howe’s side, but they fear losing the Brazilian amid interest from elsewhere.
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester City are eyeing a move for the 27-year-old.
Manager Pep Guardiola reportedly loves the midfielder, and City were ready to make a move for him last summer. But they were put off by the £100 million release clause that expired at the end of June.
City later re-signed Ilkay Gundogan and a move didn’t materialise. But with Gundogan failing to make an impact and Rodri out for the season, they could renew their interest in the Brazil international.
Newcastle will not want to part with Guimaraes, who has been a key player for them since joining the club in 2022.
However, Matheus Nunes could be used as part of a deal for Guimaraes, which may appeal to Newcastle.
