According to a report from RMC Sport, Malick Fofana (20) has not suffered an ankle fracture despite being stretchered off during Lyon’s 2-1 victory against Strasbourg on Sunday evening. The Belgian international suffered a potentially serious injury after a dangerous challenge from Ismaël Doukouré, who was sent off for his tackle.
OL still managed to secure the three points despite the loss of their attacker. Fofana was hospitalised after the match and underwent scans to understand the severity of the injury to his ankle. Initial signs point towards a severe ankle sprain rather than an ankle fracture, RMC Sport understands. Lyon fans will breathe a sigh of relief knowing their star attacker has not broken anything.
Fofana still facing several weeks out
Whilst an ankle strain is a better outcome for both the 20-year-old and the Ligue 1 club, the former Gent attacker will still be facing several weeks out if the ankle sprain is serious. A moderate ankle sprain can take up to 12 weeks to heal.
