According to L’Équipe, Olympique Lyonnais and Olympique de Marseille are close to reaching an agreement for the transfer of Jordan Veretout (31). Les Gones are set to submit a new offer for the France international midfielder which OM are expected to accept.
Veretout is considered untenable at the Stade Vélodrome with Roberto De Zerbi declaring he has no future at the club. As a result, OL are aiming to take advantage of the situation by using their ‘joker’ transfer to complete a deal to sign the midfielder despite the transfer window being shut. The 31-year-old has reached an agreement on personal terms with the Rhône club and should sign a 2-year deal at the Groupama Stadium.
Whilst the transfer window was open, Marseille quoted interested suitors a price of €8m to sign Veretout. These suitors included Rennes. However, with the window now closed, Les Olympiens have lowered their demands. Lyon submitted an opening offer of €4m which was rejected. OL’s latest offer intends to inflate the value of the deal by inserting bonuses related to qualifying for Europe and a sell-on clause.
Lyon are in a rush to sign the midfielder. The UEFA deadline for submitting squads for eligible players to play in the Europa League is on the 4th of September. If the Ligue 1 club hopes to utilise the Frenchman in continental competition this season, the Marseille midfielder needs to be registered tomorrow.
