Luis Enrique was unfussed by Kylian Mbappé (25) and Ousmane Dembélé (27) spending the last day of the league campaign at the Cannes Film Festival after they were given a holiday to recuperate ahead of the Coupe de France final against Olympique Lyonnais.
Paris Saint-Germain did not need either of their two French stars as they recorded a comfortable 2-0 victory at FC Metz to close out the Ligue 1 season, with Carlos Soler (27) and Lee Kang-in (23) getting on the scoresheet early in the first half.
Despite this, there were some concerns raised over the optics of the club allowing two of its biggest names to celebrate on the south coast while others had to carry on playing until the very end of the league campaign.
Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé’s absence questioned
It was a concern raised by Canal+ as they interviewed the PSG manager at the end of the Metz game. Luis Enrique skirted past the question as he explained that he had ordered “six players to rest” this weekend before returning to training on Tuesday (as Vitinha, Fabián Ruiz, Marquinhos, and Gianluigi Donnarumma were also provided breaks).
When pushed on whether it was a problem Mbappé and Dembélé decided to spend that time in Cannes. The manager looked bemused and annoyed. After a pregnant pause where the manager gauged the seriousness of the interviewer, he eventually responded with a singular “No.”
