It was a successful evening’s work for Spain on Wednesday, as they ran out 5-0 winners against Andorra in their opening Euro 2024 warm-up match. A whole host of players impressed in Badajoz, including Pedri, who played 62 minutes as he continues building his way back to full fitness.
La Roja manager Luis de la Fuente spoke very highly of Pedri when addressing the media post-match, as per Marca.
“He’s going to go back to the level it was before. I have no doubt. I see him with more confidence and security. He is a sure bet, and has great talent. You can always expect the best from him, he is very good. I’m very happy with the game he played.”
De la Fuente also spoke on the difficult decision he faces to cut three players from his 29-man squad, especially after the exploits of Ayoze Perez, Mikel Oyarzabal, Fermin Lopez and others against Andorra.
“I’m sure it’s going to be harder to decide the discards. Those who have come and I have met them are already part of the group. I have arguments to continue counting on all of them. I can’t give any more hints out of respect for all the players. We’ll know when we have to make the decision.
“Maybe a more versatile player or another type of player remains. Let’s try to think about all the situations that can occur during a competition. The decision is going to be very well thought out.”
It will be very interesting to see who de la Fuente decides to cut from his Spain squad. Many players took their opportunity to impress against Andorra, meaning that the 62-year-old will have his work cut out to select the final 26-man squad, which will be revealed later this week.
