Although reports earlier this week indicated that French international left-back Lucas Digne was nearing a return to Ligue 1, the Aston Villa man will ostensibly have to wait before completing his move to the Côte d’Azur.
According to RMC Sport this afternoon, talks are ongoing between the two clubs, and Les Aiglons are optimistic about finding an agreement over a loan deal with a permanent clause.
However, the Premier League also want to finalise a deal to bring in a replacement for the former PSG and Lille man before sanctioning the move. The Unai Emery-managed club have targeted Sevilla’s Marcos Acuña, but talks over the Argentinian World Cup winner’s move to England are currently at a standstill. Digne started for the Villans over the weekend, in a 4-0 win against his former club Everton. He joined the Birmingham outfit midway through the 2021/22 season after three and a half seasons with the Toffees.
