Liverpool winger and Colombia international Luis Díaz (27) is PSG’s priority signing next summer in the context of Kylian Mbappé’s expected transfer to La Liga giants Real Madrid, Foot Mercato has revealed this Wednesday. Despite the abundance of proven attacking talents the likes of Ousmane Dembélé, Gonçalo Ramos, Marco Asensio, Randal Kolo Muani or Bradley Barcola, there will be a Mbappé-shaped hole for Les Parisiens on their left front from next season onwards. The club’s Qatari owners reportedly believe that Díaz would be the best man to fill it.
Last week, El Pais Colombia and RMC Sport reported that Paris Saint-Germain were very interested in the Liverpool winger, whose contract with the Reds expires in 2027. Liverpool hijacked Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of the then-Porto winger during the 2022 winter transfer window. The Colombia international penned a five-and-a-half-year deal for Jürgen Klopp’s side and proved a hit for the Premier League team.
Liverpool not keen on a sale this summer
What’s more, Foot Mercato understands that Díaz’s agent, Raul Pais Da Costa, is in touch with former PSG Sporting director Antero Henrique. Henrique remains involved in Les Parisiens‘ transfer activity and is said to be a close friend of Pais Da Costa. The Qatari owners of PSG would be keen to maintain the sporting policy in play at the Parc des Princes, which consists of prioritizing collective-centric players rather than star names the likes of Lionel Messi or Neymar.
Díaz, with his never-say-die attitude and impeccable behavior on the pitch, ticks a lot of boxes. It is part of the reason why Liverpool are not keen to let go of the Colombian international just yet. The outlet understands that the Reds do not entertain now the prospect of a sale. Although it remains to be seen whether Klopp’s successor at Anfield would rely on Díaz and what the newly-named Liverpool executives would do in the event of a bid for the Colombian.
Besides, recruiting Díaz for what is expected to be a large sum of money for a 27-year-old player is reportedly not the most popular idea within PSG headquarters. Foot Mercato adds that PSG Sporting advisor Luis Campos would rather entertain the prospect of signing a younger player with a clearer room for improvement for the post-Kylian Mbappé era.
