In a recent report, Sport stated that Liverpool are willing to pay €60m for Barcelona prospect Gavi. It is understood that the Reds are open to paying the Spanish midfielder’s release clause to lure him to Anfield during this summer transfer period.
Gavi’s Impressive Form In Spanish Football
Gavi managed to break into Barca’s first XI last season and managed to produce quite a few promising displays at the heart of Xavi’s midfield. The Spaniard has found the back of the net twice and secured six assists in 34 matches for the Catalan outfit this season in multiple competitions.
The 17-year-old deserves some praise for averaging 1.1 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 0.9 shots, 0.6 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been accurate when distributing possession in the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 89.3% in the Spanish top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Liverpool Showing Interest In Gavi: Is He A Prospect For The Future?
Gavi is a solid tackler of the ball and can make some important interceptions for his team in midfield. He can strike the ball well from long range and can set up a few inviting opportunities for others around him.
The Spanish whizkid can complete some dangerous dribbles in the opponent’s half and can contribute by scoring and creating his fair share of goals in the final third. He is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also fill in as a left-sided wide player or operate in the number ten position as an attacking midfielder if required.
There is no denying that Gavi is a prospect to watch out for in the future, so the Reds will do well to secure his signature this summer. At 17, the Spanish midfield ace has got the potential to become a generational talent and ticks all the right boxes in terms of what Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp demands from his midfielders.
Thus, it makes sense for the Merseyside giants to try everything in their power to bring Gavi to Anfield before the start of the new campaign. He could grow into a world-class player in his position someday under the watchful eyes of Klopp.
