Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has identified Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher as a target for the summer transfer window, according to the Independent.
The Reds want to overhaul their crumbling midfield, and they have the England international on their radar.
Gallagher is reportedly high on the club’s list of midfield targets. They believe he has the right attributes to fit into their style of play.
The 23-year-old is an energetic figure in midfield with stamina for days that allows him to press the opposition relentlessly.
Gallagher is not the smoothest operator, but his grit allows him to win and carry the ball into dangerous positions.
Despite not being a regular starter under Graham Potter, the former Crystal Palace loanee has contributed one goal and has created five big chances in 25 Premier League appearances.
Normally, Liverpool would find it hard to poach a player from a member of the league’s ‘big six,’ but Chelsea must sell this summer.
The London club went gung-ho in the summer and winter transfer windows, adding several players to their ranks. They are close to breaking league spending and financial fair play (FFP) rules.
Chelsea need to offload many players, and Gallagher could be one on the move. His sale would fetch the Blues pure profit as he is a product of their Cobham academy.
Chelsea will demand a massive sum for Gallagher, a player under contract until 2025. He is a homegrown talent which brings a premium.
Last summer, Crystal Palace and Newcastle United offered around £35-£50 million for the midfielder, but Chelsea rejected them.
Chelsea will be looking for a fee north of £50 million, and Liverpool could match their offer. The Merseyside club feels that he is more suited to their high-pressing/high-octane style.
The London club is yet to find its identity under coach Graham Potter. Although, the former Brighton & Hove Albion manager likes the player.
