In a recent article, Goal.com reported that Liverpool are set to miss out on AS Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni. It has been mentioned that the Reds have fallen second-best to Real Madrid in the race to land the French midfield ace.
Tchouameni’s Impressive Form At The Stade Louis II
Tchouameni has been a breath of fresh air in French football during this campaign as he managed to put in a run of impressive displays for Monaco at the centre of the park. The 22-year-old has scored five goals and secured three assists in 50 matches for the French club this season across all fronts.
The Rouen-born talent has been a consistent performer at both ends of the pitch based on his average of 2.5 tackles, 2.9 interceptions, 0.9 clearances, 1.6 shots, 0.6 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in Ligue 1.
He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after completing 86.7% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Liverpool Set To Miss Out On Tchouameni: Big Blow For Jurgen Klopp?
Tchouameni is a tough-tackling midfielder who can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his side at the centre of the park. He usually clears the danger when needed and can make a few energetic runs with the ball from midfield.
The France international has contributed by scoring and creating his fair share of goals in the final third. However, at 22, he is still quite raw and would need time before he can become a top performer at the highest level.
Missing out on a midfielder of Tchouameni’s quality will no doubt be a big blow for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp as he needs to add some young blood to his midfield with James Milner edging closer to the end of his playing career at Anfield.
Tchouameni would have served as a great, long-term successor to Milner at the Merseyside club as he ticks all the right boxes in terms of what Klopp demands from his midfielders. Liverpool would now have no choice but to turn their attention to some of their other transfer targets when the summer transfer window reopens later this month.
