Liverpool have a “very real chance” of signing Jude Bellingham in the summer, CBS reporter Ben Jacobs has told GIVEMESPORT.
Bellingham has shone in the Bundesliga for Borussia Dortmund, making over 100 appearances for the German giants in just under three years.
Liverpool transfer news – Jude Bellingham
Liverpool’s interest in Bellingham is no secret. Having come close to signing the West Midlands-born starlet while playing for Birmingham City’s under-11 side, the Reds have maintained that interest into adulthood and are believed to be amongst those best placed to sign him next summer.
As per The Athletic, Jurgen Klopp is a huge admirer of Bellingham’s talents and Liverpool, along with Real Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea, are keen on the teenager. Bellingham is expected to leave Dortmund at the end of the season, the same report continues, with Liverpool hoping to be the ones that pry him away.
Bellingham is Liverpool’s top priority this summer, according to Sky Sports, with Klopp intent on building his midfield around the ex-Birmingham academy graduate. But with some of Europe’s biggest spenders also in the mix for the midfielder’s signature, what chance do Liverpool have of landing Bellingham should he leave Dortmund at the end of the current campaign?
What’s Jacobs said about Bellingham and Liverpool?
In an interview with GMS, Jacobs talked up Liverpool’s chances of signing Bellingham indicating they are very much in the mix for the midfielder.
“In terms of the long-term, we know that they are very much in the race or Jude Bellingham as well,” Jacobs told GMS.
“That will impact their strategy in January. They believe they have a very real chance of getting Bellingham.
“I’ve said many times that Liverpool are the front-runners, along with Real Madrid.”
What would Bellingham offer to Liverpool?
It’s easy to see why Liverpool are so intent on signing Bellingham. As the midfield that served Klopp so well during his years at the Reds begins to crumble and decay, Bellingham offers Liverpool a ready-made solution to so many of their problems with Jamie Carragher labelling him as a “game-changer”.
While unlikely to come cheap – reports suggest Dortmund value the player at £130 million – Bellingham’s approach to the game, coupled with his exceptional talent has piqued Liverpool’s interest. Transfer insider Dean Jones recently told GMS that Bellingham could have the “captaincy dangled” in front of him, with Liverpool prepared to invest in his long-term future.
A bold move, but one which is almost certain to pay off, given Bellingham’s abilities as a player. Despite his tender age, Bellingham ranks amongst the top five per cent for non-penalty goals and completed dribbles per 90 minutes, when compared to other midfielders, according to Fbref. Clearly a generational talent, Liverpool will be hoping to say ‘Hey Jude’ before not too long.
