With the futures of both Xavi Simons and Dani Olmo up in the air this summer, RB Leipzig are preparing for any potential departures, with Lille’s Angel Gomes a candidate, reports Bild.
Leipzig are working on extending the loan agreement with PSG for Simons, while teammate Olmo has a release clause worth €60m that is valid until 15th July.
Gomes is seen as a potential place for one of the pair, while another alternative is Wolfsburg’s Patrick Wimmer. However, with the Austrian, Leipzig face competition from Dortmund.
The positive for Leipzig is that they will only need to find one replacement as they already have Elijf Elmas in their ranks. The former Napoli midfielder joined in January in anticipation of a potential departure of Olmo or Simons. In his first six months in Germany, Elmas played 14 times.
Additionally, Leipzig also have Christoph Baumgartner, the Austrian has had a good EURO 2024 so far, as Ralf Rangnick’s team topped their group. In his first season in Saxony, Baumgartner scored five and assisted once.
