Many thought Bayern Munich were taking a gamble by hiring Vincent Kompany as Thomas Tuchel’s successor in the summer of 2024.
However, the Belgian coach has since justified the trust placed in him and was rewarded with a long-term contract running until 2029 back in October.
Speaking to Bild, Bayern supervisory board member Uli Hoeneß lavished praise on Kompany, describing him as “a lottery win” and “the most popular coach at FC Bayern in a long time.”
“Vincent Kompany is like a lottery win for us – with a bonus number,” Hoeneß said.
“He has achieved exactly what Thomas Tuchel, whom I consider a highly intelligent man, was never able to do here: Vincent immediately built a close connection with his players and showed genuine passion for them.
“He never demanded a holding midfielder or other specific players. He addresses issues internally but never makes them public. That way, you empower your players instead of weakening them. He is the most popular coach at FC Bayern in a long time.”
