Ligue 1 Results, Round 6
Paris Saint-Germain have piled more misery on a sorry Marseille side in complete disarray in a one-sided Classique. AS Monaco are no longer top of the league after losing the Riviera derby against OGC Nice. Surprise package Brest have rocked up to the top in winning their fourth game of the Ligue 1 season.
Monaco 0 – 1 Nice
The Principality side have conceded their first defeat of the season against their bitter Riviera rivals. Les Monégasques had two opportunities to open the scoring from the penalty spot. However, inspired Nice goalie Marcin Bulka deflected Folarin Balogun’s two attempts. Ivory Coast winger Jérémie Boga stunned the hosts in injury time after a mazing run in Monaco’s defence. Les Aiglons have racked up a third Ligue 1 win on the bounce.

Nantes 5 – 3 Lorient
La Beaujoire feasted on an eight-goal thriller last Saturday afternoon. After going 1-0 down, the hosts turned the game on its head, eventually leading 3-1 with strikes from Rennes loanee Mathis Abline, centre-back Eray Cömert and free-scoring Mostafa Mohamed. Pierre Aristouy’s players then scored as many goals as they had conceded in a frantic second half. A late Moses Simon penalty sealed Les Canaris‘ second win of the Ligue 1 campaign.

Brest 1 – 0 Lyon
Fabio Grosso’s first game in charge of Lyon ended in defeat in Brittany. Les Gones were dominated by an industrious and remarkable Stade Brestois side. Former Huddersfield Town centre-forward Steve Mounié headed in the only goal of the game in its dying minutes. Eric Roy’s side are top of the league. No Ligue 1 team has won more games this season than Brest’s four. Lyon remain winless and in 17th place.
Metz 0 – 1 Strasbourg
The Alsatians came out winners in a quite poor northeastern derby. Midfielder Habib Diarra’s goal in the last ten minutes proved the difference for the BlueCo-owned team. Patrick Vieira’s Strasbourg are one of the most inconsistent teams in the league. Nonetheless, it is their best start in a Ligue 1 campaign in 16 years. Strasbourg are sixth whilst Metz remain in mid-table.
Lens 2 – 1 Toulouse
On the back of their 1-1 away draw at Sevilla in the Champions League group stage, the Artois side have finally clinched their first win of the Ligue 1 campaign. Toulouse Spanish midfielder Cesar Gelabert opened the scoring after the half-hour mark. Wesley Saïd restored parity just before half-time. The hosts’ domination was rewarded through Morgan Guilavogui’s winning goal in the last ten minutes. Franck Haise’s side overtake Lyon to go 16th, just below Toulouse in the standings.
Le Havre 2 – 1 Clermont
The promoted Ligue 1 side’s remarkable start of the campaign continues. The Normans have only lost to leaders Brest so far. Luka Elsner’s side were already 2-0 after seven minutes of play thanks to Nabil Alioui and Mohamed Bayo. Clermont’s Cheick Konaté halved the deficit, but it was not enough for Pascal Gastien’s side. Clermont are bottom of the league with only one point. Le Havre are sixth with nine points, on par with Marseille.
Montpellier 0 – 0 Rennes
The ambitious Bretons are still unbeaten this season. The problem is, they haven’t won a single league game since their opening-day rout against Metz. Bruno Genesio fielded at La Mosson the same starting XI that dismantled Maccabi Haifa on Thursday in the Europa League. But the same causes did not produce the same effects with Rennes failing to thwart an ever tough-to-crack Montpellier team. La Paillade coach Michel Der Zakarian lamented the sorry state of the “quicksand-like” pitch at La Mosson. “We can’t play on this disastrous pitch with the players we have.” Both teams remain in mid-table.
PSG 4 – 0 Marseille
The gulf in class was evident for all to see when Paris Saint-Germain delivered a remarkable team performance against Olympique de Marseille in a one-sided Classique. A stunning Achraf Hakimi free-kick as well as Randal Kolo Muani’s and Gonçalo Ramos’ first goals piled more misery on Marseille, whose week of crisis ended in humiliation against their arch-rivals. The only negative for Les Parisiens was the sight of Kylian Mbappé limping out of the pitch after sustaining a left ankle injury.

Lille 1 – 2 Reims
Because of the Rugby Union World Cup pool game between England and Chile last Saturday at Lille, Les Dogues hosted Will Still’s Reims only tonight. The visitors went 2-0 up after only 16 minutes, making the most of Lille’s defensive errors. Lille skipper Benjamin André halved the deficit only too late to mount a comeback. Reims inflicted Lille their first home loss of the season. The Champagne side are fifth.
