GFFN editor-in-chief Luke Entwistle and GFFN’s Raphaël Jucobin face off in our Ligue 1 predictions competition. It’s three points for a correct score, two points for a correct score difference, and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?
Game of the week: Stade Rennais v AS Monaco, Saturday 16:00 (UK)
Rennes face Monaco on Saturday afternoon in a game that promises goals. The Principality club are yet to shore up their defence, despite a clean sheet against Montpellier, whilst Rennes are still finding their feet under the returning Julien Stéphan. There will be an intriguing tactical battle at the Allianz Riviera on Sunday as two of Ligue 1’s most promising coaches, Francesco Farioli and Will Still, meet for the first time. Nice will be hoping to show a reaction after suffering their first defeat of the season at the hands of Nantes last weekend. Regardless of results this weekend, PSG will finish the round top of the league, however, they will be wary of not slipping up against Nantes, where the new manager bounce was in effect last weekend.
Elsewhere, Lyon have a golden chance to secure some vital points against a Toulouse side that are being dragged into the relegation battle. Carles Martinez Novell’s side are performing well in Europe, but it is a very different story in Ligue 1, and a defeat could put the Spaniard under considerable pressure. Finally, Marseille will be looking to continue their fine run of form after three victories in seven days. Gennaro Gattuso will certainly fancy his chances against a struggling Lorient.
