Liam Rosenior raging in interview after Chelsea defeat to Arsenal – ‘Clear what we need to improve’

Chelsea were beaten 2-1 by Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday with Liam Rosenior fuming in several interview after the game

Liam Rosenior furiously berated Chelsea’s ongoing problems during his post-match interview with Sky Sports after defeat to Arsenal. The Blues put in a good performance at Emirates Stadium, but were ultimately undone by two set-piece goals.

A William Saliba header from close-range put the Gunners in front before one of those from Piero Hincapie into his own goal handed Chelsea an equaliser just before half-time.

Despite the visitors dominating the early stages of the second period, it was Arsenal that went in front as Jurrien Timber met Declan Rice’s corner with Robert Sanchez caught in no-mans land.

Pedro Neto then became the ninth player to be sent off for Chelsea this season after picking up two yellow cards in quick succession.

Losing another player to suspension and conceding more set-piece goals were part of Rosenior’s post-match rant with the Chelsea head coach bemoaning the problems that continue to plague his side.

He said on Sky Sports: “It’s been the same story for the last three games. It’s the same story. In the ascendancy in all the games. What I never do is start pointing the finger, but it’s clear what we need to improve.

“We need to make sure we are ruthless in both boxes and to concede from two corners and get another red card, it is the story of our season.

“The first goal is top. Arsenal are probably the best team in the world at them. The second one is just disappointing. We have to do better.

“I don’t want to keep coming out here and saying all the good that we do. There is a lot to sort out before we go to Aston Villa.

“It’s a combination. The marking, the zone players. The goalkeeper is involved. I won’t single out. I will address it on the training ground.”

Asked exactly what is going wrong, Rosenior said: “It’s a difficult thing to put your finger on. We get paid to win football matches and if you think we haven’t addressed that, it’s crazy.

“I thought the pain of dropping two points against Leeds and Burnley would have got us going. I thought the set-up tactically was good. Arsenal didn’t cause any problems until set plays.”

Rosenior was also far from pleased during his radio interview as well with the 41-year-old particularly critical of his side’s set-piece problems.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “Frustrated. Disappointed. If we don’t eradicate the set-play issues that have started to creep into our game and our discipline issues, then for all of the good things we do in the game, we are not going to get what we want to achieve.

“It is something we need to address. There is certain focus and concentration issues that we have to address. We worked on set-plays all week and, as a manager, that makes it even more difficult to swallow.

“We knew Arsenal’s one of their biggest strengths is that. It needs to stop. For all of that, I am tired of coming out – we have had one difficult performance against Burnley, which we should win anyway.

“Leeds, we were very good, and we gifted two goals away. Today, to come away at Arsenal and perform how we have done in large parts – give away two goals is really, really disappointing.”
