The 2025 Formula One season launch is drawing ever closer, with teams making their final tweaks to their cars before the opening round in Australia next weekend.
All the teams completed the usual three-day pre-season test in Bahrain last month, with drivers getting used to the 2025-spec cars, and some getting used to their new teams and how they operate.
Without doubt, the biggest move of the 2024 off-season was Lewis Hamilton ending his long-term partnership with Mercedes and joining the scarlet red of Ferrari. However, it has not been the smoothest start for both driver and team.
Ferrari Under FIA Investigation
Their new 2025 vehicle has drawn criticism from Red Bull
It has emerged that they are facing an investigation from the FIA after the Red Bull team made a complaint about their rear wings. The slight pessimism around Ferrari may be a product of a messy final day, where off-track excursions were followed by an early stoppage. There were clearly signs of progress on day two, however.
Christian Horner’s team argued both Ferrari and McLaren were using a flexible rear wing trick to gain a performance advantage.

Red Bull technical director Pierre Wache raised fresh concerns last week, and told The Race: “It is still going on. I think Ferrari and McLaren are doing the mini-DRS stuff still.”
The Scuderia reject Red Bull accusations and don’t believe that they’ll face “too many problems,” according to Italian outlets.
The FIA clamped down on rear-wing flexibility last season after onboard footage from Oscar Piastri’s MCL38 machine at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix showed the component flexing under load on the straights. And the clampdowns are continuing into the new season, and both the Ferrari and McLaren bases can expect visits shortly from FIA chiefs to ensure everything is above board.
Red Bull Team Worried About McLaren
Helmut Marko believes they are the biggest threat next season
The Red Bull team are clearly worried about their rivals, having lost their seemingly iron-grip on the Constructors’ Championship last season to the papaya-clad McLaren team. According to Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko, it is Norris and McLaren who have the best chance of securing the World Championships this season, as the reigning champions are widely viewed as the favourites after a strong showing in Bahrain.
“In my opinion, it will be a three-way or four-way battle between McLaren, Mercedes, Ferrari, and us,” he told German news outlet Sport.de.
“Although, if you look at the test results, McLaren already has a head start. That was the case in both the short and long runs. The current favourite is clearly McLaren.”
There were signs during the Bahrain testing that Hamilton’s Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc was not exactly positive about the new setup of his car. The Scuderia exhibited “unexpected and unpredictable behaviour” after several major changes were made to what team principal Fred Vasseur described as “a completely new” vehicle. It’s understood that Leclerc isn’t particularly happy with the changes, which have reportedly sapped a lot of his confidence. So Ferrari will definitely be kept busy as the 2025 season draws ever closer.
