After missing Germany’s 1-2 defeat against Japan at the World Cup due to knee problems, Leroy Sané made his return to action in last night’s 1-1 draw with Spain as he came on from the bench with 20 minutes left.
Speaking to Sport1 after the game, the Bayern Munich attacker said he feels fit enough to start against Costa Rica on Thursday.
“My knee is doing better. I think I’m ready to play from the start again,” Sané told the German media outlet.
For Germany coach Hansi Flick, Sané was already an option to start against Spain.
“But we didn’t know how long he would last,” said Flick after the game.
Flick added that he was happy with the decision to bring Sané on from the bench “because he brought a breath of fresh air when he came on”.
